Everyday is casual Friday for me. If I want to switch my jeans and blouse combo for work, I wear dresses and skirts -- never shorts. I believe short shorts are never appropriate for a professional environment. At one of my old jobs during the height of the burmuda shorts fad, HR sent out a Dress Code ban on them. I had about three pairs of burmuda shorts in dress pants material and lived in them so I was bummed when they announced it. I still think they are appropriate for the workplace. At my last job, the dress code was "casual" so we could wear jeans to work everyday. Unfortunately, people interpreted casual to be wearing whatever they wore at home which included: leggings, jeans with ripped holes, flip flops and bike shorts. The latter I witnessed on our HR Director, much to my dismay.
So what does "casual" attire mean for work? Dark denim, slacks or chinos with a button down shirt or blouse free of holes, tears and stains. Blazer optional. At work, you should always look presentable yet professional and not look like you've been running errands from home. Express and Gap have some great inexpensive clothes for work. Ann Taylor and J Crew are a little bit pricier but they have some really great basics as well that can be picked up during their sales.
What do you wear on casual Fridays?

Sweats are totally accepted at my office on the daily but I have no problem dressing for success even if I'm odd man out! I think dresses are the perfect answer, they can look put together or casual at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI totally love shorts for work but it has to be in the fall/winter when I can wear tights and a blazer with them... think mark. mag 9 look from 2011 with the short story shorts! ;)
You're looking sharp as always and just spent the last 20 mins going through your blog looks! Always so chic yet effortless! Love it!
