Refreshed

The camping trip to Jackson area was a much needed respite away from the news of Friday.  Although we came back smelling of campfire smoke and more dirt than we could imagine underneath our nails, it was nice to get away from civilization and just be with the family.

The first night, we spent most of the time driving and looking for a campsite but we stayed up until the early hours of the morning once we settled.  On the second day, we drove around searching for a better campsite closer to a stream.  We found one but at night, it was even colder and a wild animal (raccoon?) decided to pay our garbage a visit before dawn.  Pretty sure one of the guys scared that animal shitless with their shotgun, as we discovered some evidence when we went on our hike that morning.

My dad used to go hunting when I was a child and I remember he would come back smelling like what I thought at that time, raw game.  I realize now that it's just campfire smoke.  I still don't like the smell. My daughter on the other hand, doesn't share my distaste.  She took a whiff of our camping clothes once we got home and said, "Mmmm, camping!"  I'm not opposed to another camping trip but I plan to bring extra blankets next time.
